How I became interested in my field
I was interested in the environment growing up and participated in many outdoor activities (I was an Eagle Scout). This led to a BS in forest science, followed by graduate work on environmental topics such as sewage effluent disposal on a forest and acid rain effects on ecosystems. My Ph.D. in environmental science prepared me for working in a range of ecosystems, which I have continued to expand throughout my career (moving from forested more natural ecosystems to highly managed agricultural). Because of my broad range of studies and ecosystem types, I have published papers in a wide range of journals.

Curriculum Vitae (PDF)

Research Interests
The biogeochemistry of nutrients in agricultural, forested, and aquatic ecosystems, including the transformation, transport, and effects of nutrients in agricultural and aquatic systems. I also am interested in interdisciplinary research to study complex systems from a variety of approaches.
