How I got interested in this field
My interest in Horticulture started in 1974 when I took and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of U. of I. Ornamental Horticulture classes. In 1977, after unhappily managing a swimming pool and ice rink for the Park District of Oak Park (Illinois), I became the greenhouse operator at their conservatory. That really hooked me on horticulture! I’ve been formally studying horticulture and professionally working in the field (no pun intended) since 1977.
Curriculum Vitae (PDF) Outreach and Research InterestsGeneral: My research involves grass ecology, production, and management. As Extension Specialist, I provide research-based information about turf, biofuel, landscape, and native grasses to Illinois audiences. Current Specific Areas: I conduct applied, field-based research in biofuel plant propagation and production, turf species and cultivar evaluations, turf management, and native and exotic landscape grass management.
