My research addresses the function of, and factors influencing, soil organic matter in natural and managed ecosystems. Ongoing research includes studied of the influence of elevated CO2 and O3 on roots and soil organic matter response, characterization of management (organic management, crop rotation, biomass crops, tillage and fertilization) on organic matter fractions, dynamics, leaching and trace gas emissions, Bt toxin persistence in soils, climate and agriculture, and the relationship SOC, co-benefits, and economic policy.
